Lian Gong Ba Fa (练功八法), meaning Eight Methods of Training Practice, is a foundational body-conditioning system within Yang-style Taijiquan, particularly preserved in the lineage of Yang Shaohou.

This training set integrates both external physical conditioning and internal qi cultivation. Externally, it emphasizes the development of muscles, bones, and tendons through a method traditionally described as “stretching the tendons and drawing out the bones” (抻筋拔骨). This process strengthens structural integrity while promoting elasticity and connected power throughout the body.

Internally, the practice focuses on cultivating and regulating nei qi (internal energy). It establishes a dynamic circulation through coordinated movements characterized by rising, releasing, opening, and closing (提, 放, 开, 合). These fundamental actions create a continuous energetic cycle that supports both health and martial development.

This training system is known under different names and variations across lineages. It is also widely recognized as the Yang-style Baduanjin.
